The Hanse Sail in Rostock at the Baltic Sea attracts about 250 traditional sailing and museum ships and offers a varied cultural program ashore, which makes it one of the largest sailing events in Europe.

Moritzburg Festival, Moritzburg
Aug 8 – Aug 23
The Castle Moritzburg just outside of Dresden will come alive once again in 2009 with the wonderful sounds of Jan Vogler and his roster of international musicians. For two weeks, soloists from all over the world will present works of chamber music in Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory, the Moritzburg Palace, the Frauenkirche and the Evangelical Church in Moritzburg.

Luther Festival, Eisenach

For the Luther Festival in Eisenach, an entire quarter of the town is transformed into a series of scenes from the late Middle Ages with lots of loving attention to detail. Craftsmen, spectators in historical costume, traveling players and entertainers recreate the fascinating atmosphere of a medieval market. Luther’s life story is staged at original open-air venues. Luther Festival is an enchanting and moving medieval experience.

Wine Village, Stuttgart
Aug 26 – Sep 6
The Wine Village in Stuttgart is one of the largest and most beautiful wine festivals in Germany. More than 250 wines from the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg are sold in more than 120 lovingly decorated vine bowers on Marktplatz and Schillerplatz around the old Palace.
