‛20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – on the trail of history in Potsdam‘ is a guided tour offering visitors to the Brandenburg capital an insight into the history of a divided nation.
The regional capital of Brandenburg just outside Berlin, Potsdam played an important part in German history. The division of Germany also left its mark here: 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Potsdam is offering a host of activities and attractions associated with the Iron Curtain and its downfall. The route starts at Glienicke Bridge and follows the line along which the Berlin Wall once ran, giving participants an insight into stories about how the Berlin Wall affected real people‘s lives, attempts to cross the border and secret agents. The tour then continues on to Cecilienhof House and into the ‛forbidden city‘. Residents of the villas in Potsdam‘s Nauener Vorstadt district were forced to
leave their homes in 1945. A ‛little Soviet Union‘ was then set up here and buildings such as the boarding school once attended by the empress were turned into the KGB‘s German headquarters.
The next guided tours will be offered on 27 September, 3 October and 9 November 2009 in German and English (duration: 2.5 hours).
Tickets cost €9.00 for adults (concessions: €7.00). Reservations are recommended.
