Since its invention 125 years ago, the motor car has changed the world significantly. So much so, that a world without mobility is hardly conceivable today.
To mark the anniversary, the German Museum of Technology in Berlin hosts a permanent exhibition on the theme of (auto)mobility starting 13 May, 2011.
Covering an area of 1,400 square metres, the ‘Mensch in Fahrt’ (People in Motion) exhibition is set in the new museum district on the former site of the Anhalter goods railway station. It features a number of innovative and exceptional exhibits such as carriages, bicycles, motorbikes and a total of 30 cars.
Highlights include the Colani GT design car from 1964, the luxurious Mercedes ‘Nürnberg’ and the VW Beetle from 1951, which is still popular today. Electric vehicles are another interesting theme of the exhibition, pointing towards the fact that the traditional combustion engine is set to be replaced by new technologies in the future.
