May 17-29, 2011 — International Mahler Festival: Gustav Mahler is one of the most famous composers from the turn of the 19th century.

Honoring the 100th anniversary of his death, the east German city of Leipzig will become the worldwide focus of events with the International Mahler Festival (May 17-29, 2011) organized by the Leipzig
Gewandhaus. Even though Mahler spent merely two years of his life in Leipzig, it represents a milestone in his biography because it was in Leipzig that he composed his first symphony.

Grassi Museum of Applied Art Leipzig

From 12 March to 13 June, as part of the tricentennial celebrations for Meissen’s Porcelain Manufactory, Leipzig’s Grassi Museum of Applied Art is putting one its finest treasures on display: the Schulz Codex, a collection of 124 pattern sample books with more than 1,000 individual sketches of Chinoiserie. They originate from the prominent Meissen porcelain painter Johann Gregorius Höroldt (1696 – 1775) and other painters in his workshop.
